Folk for Fall Volume 2

Folk for Fall Volume 2

Do you associate certain music with a particular season?  I’m not talking about the obvious – surf music in summer, Christmas carols in December.  Music has such power to evoke memories, it can transport us right back to the first time we heard it, or to a time when when we were doing something meaningful.  You know me and my love of rituals and tradition – once those associations are made, they stick.

I’d heard the Beatles’ Revolver album a hundred times before I met John.  But a couple of weeks after we’d started dating we spent an evening at his parents’ house while they were away.  We were drinking red wine.  We decided to take a walk in the woods behind his parents’ house.  We walked out over crunchy fallen leaves, the dying light glowing crimson through the wine in our glasses.  Then we went back to the house and played Revolver while he made dinner for us.  That was decades ago and it was just a sweet, simple walk in the woods, but I remember it every time I listen to Revolver and it makes me think of fall.

What music are you drawn to in the fall?

I listen to a lot of classical music in the fall – check out my classical playlists here and here.  But most of the time I’m listening to my favorite mellow blend of folk, indie and country.  I created a great folk playlist for fall last year, and now more in the same vein in Volume 2.
